Wandering Monster perform intricately arranged instrumental rock music which draws upon jazz sensibilities and sound worlds.

Made up of five crossover musicians highly active on the northern scene, the group reach beyond what may be expected from the tried and tested line-up of the tenor saxophone/guitar quintet.

Retaining the harmonic sophistication and improvisational approach of jazz, these influences are juxtaposed with the rhythmic complexity of modern rock and metal.

The result is a sound that is intense and raucous, yet also dynamic, sensitive and spontaneous.

An engaging live act, the band is able to pull off involved written material alongside moments of exciting, natural improvisation.

The band's line up is made up of Sam Quintana, Ben Powling, Calvin Travers, Aleks Podraza and Tom Higham.

Notable performances include Lancaster Jazz Festival, Marsden Jazz Festival, Liverpool International Jazz Festival supporting Mammal Hands, Seven Arts- Leeds supporting Seamus Blake, Manchester Jazz Festival, Scarborough Jazz Festival and Hyde Park Book Club.

You can catch Wandering Monster at Cafe Jazz in Cardiff on February 7.
