We have enjoyed a top gear response to our new Me and My Motor feature, when each week we will chat to someone with a passion for vehicles – from classics to hot hatches and from motorcycles to vintage. This week, we talk to Simon Robinson, from Darlington
What vehicle/s do you own (model/year), and for how long?
I’ve had the 1955 BSA Bantam for five years, a 1971 Triumph Stag for eight years, a 1978 Triumph Spitfire for 22 years and the1992 Royal Enfield Bullet for three years.
Sophie the Spitfire which I restored myself
Why did you decide to buy this particular vehicle?
I was given the BSA by my uncle to restore – I’ve always wanted to do the Beamish Rally, which I did in 2018 and I was the first person to do it on L Plates.
Bertie the Bantam, my first attempt at a bike restoration
What do you mainly use it for, and do you take it to shows or events?
Going to the shops, car shows, fundraising and spending time with family and friends.
What does your family think about your passion for vehicles?
They are all arguing about who gets what when I die, so I take it from that they they love my toys.
Bipin the Indian Royal Enfield, my current project
What was your first vehicle and why did you buy it?
It was a 1988 Red Ford Fiesta 950cc. It was a year old and the insurance was cheap at £450 fully comp for a 19-year-old driver.
What is your dream vehicle and why?
AC Cobra. It looks and sounds what a true car should be.
Sabrina the Stag
Would you ever go electric and why?
Yes, when I can buy a car with a range of 500 miles then I will do it.
What do you think a car says about its driver?
According to the experts I’m a petrol head. I own an Alfa Romeo Guilia.
What’s your favourite road to drive on?
The A68
