World renowned Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama has partnered up with McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Bridgend to showcase their next generation of musical talent this August.

Producing some of the world’s most talented students who have gone on to be stars in the fields of theatre, television and music; musical prodigies from the college will entertain shoppers during the warm summer nights every Thursday evening from 4.30-6.30pm at the centre’s pop-up chill out space.

Specially created just for the summer, this tranquil space will allow shoppers to preview the ‘next big thing’ in music.

Founded just after the Second World War, RWCMD is the National Conservatoire of Wales and the UK’s leading Drama School that has seen superstars walk through their doors including Anthony Hopkins, Ruth Jones, Rob Brydon. Currently, HRH The Prince of Wales is the Patron.

James Clark is a gifted jazz pianist, accordionist and arranger and a well-known Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama student who’s played at the London Jazz Festival, Southbank Centre and appeared in SC4’s Band Cymru as a finalist. He leads multiple bands from a duo with saxophonist Rob Griffin to his own original big band, James Clark's Lonely Hearts Rugby Club. Playing the accordion alongside a drummer and bass, Bridgend Designer Outlet will be entertained with uplifting, classic music from the ‘American Songbook’ along with James’ original compositions influenced from music from all over the world from Brazil to Bulgaria.

Tom Ollendorff is a recent graduate of the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, specialising in the complexities of jazz guitar. Alongside a saxophonist, Tom will lead this duo through stimulating renderings of original jazz pieces and fine standards. With standout performances at the renowned Jazz Heritage Wales & Brecon Jazz Club, Silvershine Jazz Club and The Guildhall Welsh Jazz Club Concerts, Tom showcases jazz guitar in its purest art-form.

The pop-up chill out space will be at the centre throughout August providing respite to Bridgend shoppers during the summer. Located at the East entrance of the centre, a designated area has been transformed with Astroturf, quaint white picket fencing, comfortable seating, fun family games and a Clarks fitting shoe service to ensure little ones have the perfect footwear just in time for school.
