DISCOVER the magic of trees at the Wales Tree Festival held at the National Botanic Garden on Saturday and Sunday August 15-16.
Take a fascinating Welsh tree trail and hear talks to help you discover which trees grow in the Garden and all about the creatures that live in and around them.
The Woodland Skills Centre will be here to pass on their skills and knowledge of woodland crafts. Members of the British Woodcarvers’ Association will also be on hand to demonstrate how to make wooden pens and walking sticks, how to choose the right timber and how to woodturn.
Visitors will also have the chance to buy some unique handmade wooden gifts. There’s spell-binding chainsaw carving from talented local artist Simon Hedger and the children will love making bows and arrows and building dens, inspired by the legend of Twm Siôn Cati, the medieval Welsh outlaw.
They’ll love looking for signs of fairies in our special Wales Tree Festival Fairy Wood and they can join the grown-ups in weaving a souvenir willow pot-stand (Saturday only) and joining local artist Louise Burston painting and drawing trees – including the Ghost Forest (Sunday only).
All the Wales Tree Festival activities are free.
The Garden is open from 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm. Family activities run from 12noon until 4pm every day
Admission to the Garden is £9.75 (including Gift Aid) for adults and £4.95 for children over five. Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is free for all.
