They will come knocking at the door soon.

How are you going to vote, they will ask.

There’s a straightforward answer which I inherited from my father, who voted for one party all his life but still told them and everyone else: ’Mind your own business.’

For the whole point about the election is that it is decided by secret ballot.

How we intend to vote is nobody’s business but our own.

Perhaps the police should become involved to stop what are unwanted and uninvited cold callers.

It is not as if there is not enough information about what they stand for available.

Are canvassers steering clear of those areas of old and vulnerable people the county council has designated as ‘no go’ areas for cold callers?

I hope so, though I still argue that should apply everywhere.

I had a chap round the other week who clearly thought I was old and stupid enough to pay him £600 to tidy up a garden which, once it gets warmer, I can do in two days.

There are people who want to wash the windows or cut the grass, or even relay the drive.

I did not want any of them, so I certainly do not want politicos with nothing tangible to offer.

There are questions I would like to ask politicians.

Most begin: “Why are you not…?”

I know local candidates will not have the authority to give any answers.

All they can do is tell me how wonderful both they and their party leaders are.

Sorry folks, I will decide that. So do not bother to call on me.
