Eagle-eyed readers may have spotted something slightly different about the Guardian’s front page in recent weeks – our new anniversary masthead.

The South Wales Guardian is 60 years old this year.

In an industry that is constantly having to adapt and re-invent itself, reaching the grand old age of 60 is no mean feat.

It is a landmark of which everyone involved in the history of this newspaper is very proud.

There have been ups and downs – and mistakes too, but through it all the Guardian has done its utmost to do the right thing by our readers and for the benefit of this region.

So, to mark this special diamond anniversary, we are calling on readers, former staff and correspondents to share their memories and images of the past – whether relating to the newspaper itself or the stories we have covered.

The most sought after treasure will be a copy of that first ever edition which first went on sale on October 20, 1955.

There have been countless changes since we first hit the shops – to the Guardian and to the communities we serve, but everyone here is honoured to be playing some small part in the grand history of this little old lady.

There are older papers in South Wales, there a bigger ones too - with more staff and more glitz and glamour, but there are very few so proud to remain as rooted in their community as the South Wales Guardian.
