Matt Tebbutt, TV presenter, restaurateur and owner of the Foxhunter in Nantyderry, Monmouthshire, has led a panel of global food experts to create a definitive list of the world’s 80 best dishes.

Compiled on behalf of the UK’s leading kitchen appliance brand, Kenwood, ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’ aims to inspire food-lovers to be more experimental with adventurous world dishes.

Alongside Matt, the panel – including Masterchef 2012 winner Shelina Permalloo and spice guru Anjum Anand –came up with the list of global food suggestions, step-by-step recipes to make them from scratch at home, as well as the best restaurants to visit for certain dishes.

‘Around the World in 80 Plates’, available as a downloadable booklet from www.kenwoodworld.com/uk, follows Kenwood research which shows that the Welsh have £6.5m worth of unused herbs and spices going to waste in their cupboards, as they shy away from experimenting with global cuisine at home.

The poll reveals that, although foreign cuisines rank ahead of traditional British fare when it comes to our favourite foods, Welsh residents only ever cook an average of three foreign dishes – typically Chinese Stir Fry, Indian Curry, and Spaghetti Bolognese.

And as many as one in five (20%) can only cook one international dish. Over a quarter of Welsh respondents (28%) resort to ready-made sauces when cooking global cuisines, rather than starting from scratch, and 15% rely on takeaways or restaurants to get their foreign food fix.

Top 5 foreign dishes the Welsh are most likely to make at home: 1. Chinese Stir Fry (66%) 2. Indian Curry (60%) 3. Spaghetti Bolognese (57%) 4. Mexican Chilli (51%) 5. Caesar salad (36%)

Having trained with many of the UK's leading chefs, from Marco Pierre White, to Alistair Little and Sally Clarke, Matt Tebbutt has a wealth of experience, which he brought with him to the creation of ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’.

Matt explains: “All of us on the panel have our own culinary backgrounds and areas of expertise, so it’s been a fascinating project to work on, and between us we have been able to draw on our past experiences to come up with the definitive list.

Working alongside the rest of the panel introduced me to recipes I hadn’t tried before, so I’m sure there is going to be something for everyone to try for the first time.

Dishes that I brought to the table include the classic New York cheesecake, chocolate brownies, and homemade gravlax and rye bread – but I must admit, I was disappointed that Welsh rarebit didn’t make the cut.”

Seb Goff, Kenwood Trade Marketing Manager, adds: “We were thrilled to have Matt, and the rest of the panel, on board for this exciting project. We know Brits continually embrace new flavours and cuisines, but we want to encourage people to be even more adventurous and try things they have never even heard of.

"Our ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’ booklet definitely contains something for everyone, and can be downloaded for FREE from www.kenwoodworld.com/uk”.
