Dinefwr are getting a taste for victory

Premier League Two hockey Dinefwr 4 Haverfordwest 2 THE tide seems to have turned for Dinefwr Firsts who enjoyed their second consecutive win.

Their visitors demonstrated skill, speed and determination immediately by taking control and maintaining possession in Dinefwr’s half but the tight-knit home defence proved difficult to overcome.

As Dinefwr began to settle into their rhythm, they looked more and more comfortable and began to dominate the majority of possession.

Danielle Harrison demonstrated her flair by drawing the ’keeper from goal before slipping the ball to Amy Brookes for Dinefwr’s first goal.

Dinefwr took control from the restart and a confident run by Brookes ended with a strong strike to net Dinefwr’s second within a minute of their first. Haverfordwest came at Dinefwr with conviction early in the second half and were not about to bow out gracefully.

Their speed and strength were evident as they notched up a first and then an equalising goal. A handful of penalty corners gave them ample opportunity to take the lead, but each was spurned.

This season’s newcomer and man-of-the-match Jennie Ellis proved her worth in midfield thanks to her defensive aptitude and flawless attacking.

In the second half Harrison again drew the ’keeper to create a goal for Alison Jones.

The final score to secure victory came from Jess Roberts, following a reverse hit through defence from Ria Bowen.
