LLANDEILO moved into second place despite an unconvincing performance against lowly Tenby United at Heywood Lane.

In a scrappy first half the home side took the lead with a well-struck penalty by Jimmy Davies, but the visitors responded when hooker Dan Roberts broke clear, only to be scythed down by a high tackle by flanker Dylan Griffin, who was subsequently sent to the sin bin.

Sam Davies claimed the penalty.

With the scores level at the interval, Llandeilo, with the wind behind them, tore into Tenby and several phases of play resulted in Roberts scoring out wide. Davies again converted.

Tenby, to their credit, kept the ball in hand and fly half Toby Smith, on loan from Carmarthen Athletic, fed wing Simon Stanford from a tap penalty. Stanford looked certain to score but was halted by a superb cover tackle from full back Celfyn Davies.

With their tails up, Tenby forced their way upfield and reduced the deficit when the Blacks’ No 8, Dan Thomas, was sin-binned for killing the ball. Jimmy Davies obliged with the penalty.

A further Jimmy Davies penalty brought the home side to within a point of the visitors, who were forced to defend stoutly to hang on for the win. Llandeilo face Dunvant at home next Saturday.
