Ammanford on the bounce but still wanting Moore!
12:00am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Sport
AMMANFORD thoroughly deserved the points after an impressive performance saw them claim their third consecutive league victory.
The home team started positively, but found themselves thwarted by a desperate defence and overeagerness on their own part.
They eventually took the lead through the boot of Rhydian Morris before a fine long-range penalty from full-back Chris Moore doubled the advantage soon after.
Wing Tomos Ellis Williams then burst through the Skewen defence and linked with the supporting players before Moore received the scoring pass to cross for an excellent try.
Ammanford found themselves under pressure fromthe restart as Skewen attacked the fringes with phase after phase but a resolute homedefence ensured the hosts held firm.
And they quickly turned defence into attack with the impressive Williams causing havoc in the visiting ranks. Wing Gary Stephens capitalised to race in from 65 metres and score under the posts before Morris added the conversion.
A lack of concentration saw Ammanford concede a penalty, neatly converted by Skewen outside-half Anthony Busselli. The lead was soon further reduced by a second penalty as Ammanford eased off before the break.
Early in the second half poor communication left a huge gap in the Ammanford defence which Busselli exploited to send in the Skewen wing for a well-finished try.
The score served to remind Ammanford they were in a game and Skewen rallied to play the more positive rugby. Their efforts were undone when centre Dafydd Pritchard intercepted on halfway and showed an excellent turn of speed to score Ammanford’s third try under the posts. Morris again converted.
Skewen hit back when scrum half Tom Griffiths and Busselli combined to free space for the visiting wing to score his second and close the gap to a nervy 25–16.
Ammanford responded and after a period of pressure Morris converted a drop goal to extend the lead to 12 points.
Pritchard and Ellis Williams then combined down the right flank, Ryan Williams supporting took the ball on and passed inside to Moore who finished off another excellent team try before adding the conversion.
On Saturday, Ammanford travel to Llangennech.
