Defending champions Burry Port Legion Whites sat it out with a ‘bye’ while Matchroom A made a promising start with a 4-3 victory over visiting Pontarddulais Cons A.
Brothers Steve and Paul Doughton (33 break) helped rescue the ‘aggregate’ point for Bont.
Elsewhere, Nigel Beynon, Chris Walters and Paul Garritty earned a narrow 4-3 win for Penygroes RFC at New Lodge A; Johnny Wilcox, Ivan Wallace and B Webber won for the home side.
Burry Port Reading Room Blues notched a convincing 5-2 win against New Lodge B, whose framewinners were Mike Wood and Derek Morgan.
Llanesco B crashed 6-1 at Gorseinon Workingmen’s. For the latter, Steve Ellis, Frank Ellis, Paul Thomas, David Jones and Keith Murrell were all on the ball.

In the Second Division, promoted P o n t y b e r e m Workingmen’s found the going difficult, Kieran Evans and Kevin Sellwood winning in a 5-2 home loss to CGMD.

Tycroes RFC A were good 5-2 winners at Carway A, thanks to Mike Davies, Tim Lewis, S Davies and Chris Woodford.
Electricity B were 5-2 winners against Llanelli Cons B while Upper Tumble Blues defeated Burry Port Reading Room Reds 5- 2, courtesy of Mark Hughes, Carwyn Cue, Joe Evans and Richard Davies.
Llanelli Cons A were 5-2 conquerors of Electricity C whereas Bryn & Trallwm defeated Cross Hands B 4-3, though the rugby club nicked the ‘aggregate’, Jamie Gimblett and Mark Martin winning.
In division Three, new boys Ponthenri Social Club made a winning bow with a convincing 6-1 victory against visiting Legion Reds, thanks to the efforts of Kevin Lewis, Gerry Keaney, G Howell, Mark Regola and Jeff Brown.
Calsonic Rivals were beaten 5-2 at Pontarddulais Cons B; for the hosts Robert Davey, Hugh Williams, Jamie Bishop and Ian Lewis secured the points.
Roy Price, Andrew Jones, David Sheppard and Wynford Morgan gave Llandybie Social B a winning 5-2 start at Tycroes RFC B, who retaliated through MatthewDavies and C Jones.
Llanesco A defeated visiting Gorseinon Workingmen’s B 5-2; Darren Thorne and Tudor Lloyd won for the latter.
Meanwhile, Chris Abbott, John Williams and Brian Thomas were Upper Tumble Reds’ winning trio in a narrow 4-3 aggregate loss at Pontarddulais Cons C; for the home side, Dave Mayhew, Tom Carey and Kristian Rees were the framewinners.
