Division One West
AMMANFORD kicked off their 125th season with a fine away win against very resilient opposition.
The visitors recognising that their opponents’ mainweaponwas a heavy, uncompromising pack, opted to use width and speed which paid off to good effect. Wing Gary Stephens was rewarded with Ammanford’s first try of the season after good work from fly half Rhydian Morris and young full back Dylan Morgan. Morris added a penalty.
Ammanford’s over-eagerness allowed the hosts to reduce the arrears with a penalty before Kenfig Hill took the lead with a wellworked try.
Ammanford struck back with a series of powerful drives by Dylan Cooper, Emyr Phillips and Jake Simm, before Morris wrestled his way over for a second try.
Gary Stephens then set up Morgan for the third try and a half-time 18-10 lead.
The second half started positively as Ammanford extended their lead with another Morris penalty. From the restart Morris combined with centre Gareth Owen to provide Craig Woodall with a clear run in, converted by Morris.
With the bonus point in the bag Ammanford’s concentration slipped, allowing the hosts a very good individual try.
Kenfig reduced the deficit further with another try to set up an unlikely comeback.
ButAmmanford closed the gameoff with a try by hooker Ryan Williams.
