Ammanford up to second as rain halts play

Premier League Cricket

Cardiff (19-1)  Ammanford (192-7)

Match abandoned

AMMANFORD managed to derive 11 points from one of only two Premier League games started on Saturday.

They travelled to the Diamond Ground in Cardiff and were put in to bat after a delayed start in a match already reduced to 44 overs.

Rhydian Harris was dismissed in the first over and he was joined back in the pavilion six overs later by Matthew Fisher as Ammanford slumped to 24 for two.

Andrew Salter and skipper Alun Evans began to make amends as they put on 84 for the third wicket before Salter was out for 25 after 31 overs.

Rhys Davies (13) and Matthew Roberts (19) managed to stay with their skipper while the scoreboard ticked along under extremely tricky conditions. Evans was run out by his brother Huw with three overs to go for another stunning innings of 85.

Ammanford closed on 192 for seven, a fine effort under the trying circumstances.

Evans is currently the Premier League’s top scoring batsman, averaging 69 with six knocks over 50 from just nine innings. His average would have been even better were it not for Saturday’s sibling runout.

Cardiff struggled to 19 for the loss of one wicket in eight overs when the rain returned with a vengeance and put a miserable full stop to proceedings.

The 11 points they took from this game move Ammanford to second place, just four points behind opponents Cardiff.

Next week they entertain Ynysygerwn at the Park, whilst on Sunday they play Swansea at St Helen’s in the quarter final of the Welsh Cup.

Ammanford Seconds (169-7) beat Cardiff (167-4)

Rhodri-Huw Davies top scored for the seconds with an unbeaten 49 as Ammanford posted a target of 169 for seven in their thrilling 47 over match against Cardiff at the Park.

Hedd Wyn Jones then bagged four wickets as Ammanford pulled off a terrific win, dismissing their more experienced opponents three runs short of their target with just an over remaining.
