Division Three West Llandeilo 44 Pontyberem 7 LLANDEILO remain in third place in Division Three West following a superb performance against lowly Pontyberem.

The home side took a 6-0 lead early on with penalties from wing Sam Davies and went further ahead when livewire wing Aled Jenkins put veteran full back Arwel Davies clear to race 40 metres and score in the corner.

The Blacks went further ahead when from a series of dominant scrums, referee Tony Davies awarded a penalty try.

From the restart Pontyberem capitalised on some poor defending and fly half Nick Jones sniped over from close quarters to score an opportunist try.

With the Llandeilo eight in control, from a scrum on the visitors’ five metre line number eight Chris Mosley fed scrum half Emyr Thomas to give the Blacks a 22-7 lead at half time.

Pontyberem upped the tempo in the opening ten minutes of the second half but some resolute defending kept them at bay.

Following some outstanding phases of play, prop James Hughes, in characteristic fashion, crashed over for his third try of the season, much to the delight of the home crowd, and so securing a winning bonus point.

With Llandeilo now in total control they scored two further tries through second row Andrew Thomas, making his debut appearance for the first XV.

Sam Davies converted both to bring the final score to 44-7.

Llandeilo host Newcastle Emlyn next Saturday.
