The Carmarthenshire Sports Personality team of the Year produced a solid performance as they gained some retribution following last week’s drubbing at the hands of the Steelmen.

Ammanford set out in determined fashion in a feisty encounter and demonstrated a resolve that has been missing for several weeks – and were rewarded with an early Carwyn Richards penalty, followed by a Mathew Lemon try.

Gary Stephens who tormented the visitors all afternoon took advantage of an overlap down the left and chipped for Lemon to pounce. Richards converted from the touchline The Tata pack claimed a pushover try from a 5m scrum before Stephens crossed to claim Ammanford’s second.

Another Richards penalty extended the lead before TATA scored another pushover.

With Ammanford forced to defend, the visitors spilt the ball for Stephens to pick up and race downfield only to be grounded by a late tackle.

But Wayne Price was on hand to claim Ammanford’s third score.

The second half became a period of attrition as the visitors attempted to use their setpiece to bully a result and they soon claimed a converted penalty try.

But the score was not enough and Ammnanford held on to claim a stunning victory against a team considered the best in the league.

Ammanford take on UWIC in the next round on February 18 and host league leaders Narberth on February 11.
