CARDIGAN completed the double over an injury-ravaged Llandeilo side missing several players in the back division including the usually everpresent Gareth Augustus and Glyn Jones in midfield.

The shortages ensured coach Lyndon Batemanwas forced to play veteran Arwel Davies and Leighton Rees in the centre.

Rees was making his comeback after a two-year absence following serious illness — a fact that was appreciated by the home supporters.

In an ill-tempered game, which saw no fewer than 32 penalties, four yellow cards and played on a glue-pot of a pitch, this was certainly not a game for the romantics.

The visitors took the lead following early pressure when full back Llyr Thomas put in a clever cross kick to put wing Alun Williams over in the corner.

Against a strong wind, Llandeilo tried to keep the ball in hand but failed to make the most of their territorial advantage.

They did manage to reduce the deficit when full back Celfyn Davies slotted a 30- metre penalty following a high tackle on Rees.

Llandeilo fell further behind when flanker Dan Rae was sinbinned for an off the ball incident.

Cardigan made the most of the infringement as scrum half Mike Diggle added the penalty points.

Asecond Davies penalty took the home side to half-time with a two-point deficit.

The only score in the second half came from a lestyn Crompton penalty following a brawl in the Llandeilo half, which saw Llandeilo’s second row Rob Hughes become the second player in the bin.

Worse was to follow as replacement No8 Dan Thomas was carded for a seemingly innocuous tackle.

Despite being briefly down to 13 men, Llandeiio launched a string of attacks in a bid to level the score but to no avail.

With the clock running down, Llandeiio launched one last attack but a forward pass saw the conclusion of a truly forgettable game.

Despite the defeat Llandeilo remain second in the table and face leaders Haverfordwest away on Saturday.
