TWO minutes silence as a mark of respect for former Ammanford chairman, long-term trustee and life member Peter Pearson were observed before the kick-off.

Treharris, much improved of late and climbing the Welsh League Division Two table, are a team Ammanford have had many close encounters with over the years.

Ammanford were first to create a scoring opportunity when Richard Lewis put Luke Fayres in space for a shot that went over the bar.

Dean Jenkins went wide on the right, but his cross was cleared behind for a corner, leading to a brilliant save from ’keeper Robert James.

Ammanford were caught out when an attack was cleared upfield and the visiting winger crossed into the box, but support was lacking and the danger was cleared.

Ammanford broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when a cross was met by Jamie Bowen who finished neatly to give the defence no chance.

In the second half visiting ’keeper Jones pulled off a brilliant one-to-one point-blank save before a superb piece of football released Matthew Jones down the flank.

Jones put a pinpoint cross into the box where Bowen lost his marker but headed over.

Goalkeeper Jones then pulled off a remarkable save when he dived and somehow managed to claw out a goal-bound effort that had already passed him.

Treharris, although having to defend desperately at times, managed to bring the best out of Ammanford ’keeper Stuart Lloyd who had to dive full length to turn the ball around a post.

Ammanford’s reply was a quality goal from Richard Lewis.

Lewis latched on to a fine Bowen through ball which caught out the defence to give Ammanford the 2-0 cushion they deserved.

Ammanford move up to fifth place and are away to Llwydcoed on Saturday.

The reserves had no game on Saturday but are home to Pontardawe this Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

Ammanford junior Lowri Harries has been selected by the Swansea City Under-12s.

All at Ammanford AFC send their condolences to the Pearson family.
