AFC Pontardawe 0 Bryn Rovers 3 Neath Premier League

Bryn travelled to Pontardawe eager to put the disappointment of the previous week’s defeat at Giants Grave behind them and from the first whistle produced some of their most fluent football of the season.

From the off, it was clear that Bryn would take the lead and an onslaught from forwards Phil Eady and Nicky Jones served only to unnerve Pontardawe.

Fifteen minutes in, it duly arrived as Dan Richards buried the ball beyond hands of the Pontardawe keeper from 12 yards following a well-placed corner from the returning Chris Marland.

Despite the visitors dominating, Ponty were occasionally able to launch their own offensive, only to be denied by a solid Bryn defence.

Bryn pushed forward looking to take advantage of the evident weaknesses in their hosts’ defence, but some magnificent chances went begging and when the score remained 1-0 at the interval, they were all too aware of the need to retain their composure after the break.

Bryn came out as hungry as ever and created chance after chance, but failed to convert them into a solid lead.

The visitors’ persistence was finally rewarded when Chris Eady unselfishly squared the ball across the face of goal for brother Phil to smash home from 12 yards.

Rhodri Thomas failed to score into a gaping open goal and just a few minutes later spurned another gilt-edged chance.

With countless chances going begging, Pontardawe began to believe that the tide might turn and pressed forward.

Their best chance came when a sliced cross forced a top save from the Bryn keeper, but despite their best efforts, the game was out of sight when a quality Michael Szulik cross found Phil Eady who netted his 13th league goal of the campaign from close range.
