It was Llandeilo’s keeper Simon Rees who, quite deservedly, was man of the match after his sheer strength and bravery kept Llandeilo in the match.

But nothing should be taken away from this Llandeilo team who performed well with a few key players absent. Lloyd Morris and Rob Tipton, both new to the squad, settled quickly and played well down the right hand side, creating many chances for the Llandeilo strikers. Midway through the first half Pontlliw were awarded a penalty, but failed to convert after hitting the bar. That’s how it stayed until half time.

At this point Llandeilo were playing the football they are used to, and there was very little for coach Dai Looney to say. With ten minutes gone in the second half Llandeilo were awarded a free kick approximately 60 yards from the Pontlliw goal. Llandeilo central defender Joe Squires stepped up and struck the ball and, after misjudgment from the Pontlliw keeper, the ball ended up in the back of the net. This seemed to spur on Llandeilo who, at this point, seemed the better team. Llandeilo’s defence handled most attacks that had been thrown at them, but with five minutes left even the Llandeilo keeper couldn’t stop the ball from crossing the line to make it 1-1 With only minutes both teams were looking for a winning goal, but it wasn’t to be.

This was a better and more consolidated performance by Llandeilo and nice to see Simon Rees back to his best.
