Newcastle Emlyn 14 Ammanford 77 Asda National League Division 3 West Ammanford secured the Asda National League Division 3 West title after carrying out a demolition job on Newcastle Emlyn on Saturday.

After beating Cwmgors by 54 points, the league leaders travelled west confident of getting the win they needed to become champions.

From the kick off Ammanford went on the attack and young hooker Richie Williams went over for the first try after two minutes play.

Winger Craig Maloney converted from the touchline.

Emlyn found themselves again standing behind their goalposts when in-form No8 Chris Jones went on a rampaging 50m run to touchdown for the second try, converted by Maloney.

From the restart the home side were again pegged back on their own line.

From the resulting scrum, the visiting pack went for the kill, pushing Emlyn back over their line for No8 Chris Jones to touch down for his second, Maloney converted.

The Newcastle Emlyn side were again ripped open when the whole Ammanford side seemed to handle with second row Simon (army) Williams sending centre Alan Rees away for the fourth try and bonus point.

Ammanford were putting on a display of exhibition rugby with the midfield of Aled Parry, Alan Rees and especially centre Mathew Brailey showing superb handling skills.

Another classy threequarters move again opened up a huge overlap in the home defence, which sent winger Gary Stephens away on a 50m clear run to the corner for Ammanford's fifth try.

The large crowd were being treated to a brand of rugby normally served up by regional sides and the next try again came from a superb move when from the halfway line, scrum half Ioan Jones, sped away on the blind side, his neat chip head, saw centre Mathew Brailey speed after the ball and touch down for Ammanford's sixth try, with points machine Maloney converting for a 42-0 lead.

The visitors again struck from long range, another silky threequarter move sent winger Gary Stephens away for his second try.

Again the forwards and backs combined with centre Alan Rees sending winger Gary Stephens over for another hat-trick of tries.

Scrum half Ioan Jones, sprinted clear for an individual try again under the posts.

Maloney kicked through to touchdown for Ammanfords 10th try.

With time running out Ammanford closed out a wonderful game of attacking rugby when scrum half Ioan Jones threw several outrageous dummies for a 45m try under the posts. Craig Maloney, again converted the 11th try to seal an outstanding win and the championship.

Srum half Ioan Jones was man of the match.

Next Saturday, Ammanford play their last game at Llanybydder RFC.
