THE competition season at Dinas Powis Golf Club has started and already some excellent scores have been recorded and silverware won.

Ian Eidman began the summer season having been an also ran in the winter roll ups but managed a superb net 64 to win the Spring Tankard.

No doubt a recent trip to the K Club in Dublin with a group of members recently gave him a real flavour for winning.

The Centenary Cup was won by Peter DeSouza with a fine 40 pts.

The relatively new Hird trophy was captured by the popular Jimmy Miller who off a handicap of 17 came into the clubhouse with 40 pts.

He pipped first team player Wayne James on the back nine. Dave Russ finished third with 39 pts.

Last weekend the Davila Cup stableford competition was also won with 40pts by Liam O'Flaherty.

He was closely followed by Paul Floppy Evans with the same score but with a lesser back nine. The former captain has been in poor form of late and this will give him a major lift in his pursuit to get his handicap down from 17. Kevin Palmer was third with 38 pts.

Last Sunday saw a packed course compete in a Texas scramble as a fitting memorial and fundraiser for the family of Nathan Jones who tragically passed away suddenly a couple of months ago.

Stuart Palmer’s team won the event with an impressive 53.9 score.

The highlight of the day was Troy Knight having his beard shaved off and raising a significant amount towards the fund.

The Croft Rose Bowl was won by Neil Jeremy off a 13 handicap with a net 61.

Jon Madge shot a fabulous Net 60 last weekend to win the coveted Presidents Prize. He was closely followed by Dai Gale with a net 61 and Tony Wilton scored a net 64 to claim 3rd place.
