Glynhir Ladies played host to Machynys on Saturday, June 17 for their second league match of the season.

Glynhir ladies were expecting a tough match as Machynys always bring a strong team and have been league champions several times but Glynhir were undeterred and with the sun shining and the course in fantastic condition it all bode well for a great match.

First out was Lynn Hadley and Sue Morgan both steady and very capable golfers.

Their match was an even battle and the game nip and tuck all the way around until Machynys took the 17th and won the match 2/1.

Second pairing was Cath Thomas and Heather Evans who had a disappointing start losing the first but even after some problems with a trolley and a twisted ankle Glynhir won the 2nd to even up the score. Machynys took the 3rd and the 4th and their remarkable birdie on the 5th left them stunned to only get a half as Glynhir equalled because they had a shot. On the 6th Glynhir found the bunker and the side of the green whereas Machynys had a dolly of a putt to take their tally to 3 up. Cath and Heather dug deep and downgraded this to only 1 up on the turn.

On the back 9, Glynhir turned the match around halving 10 and 11 and then winning the next four, Machynys took the 16th but could only manage to half the 17th and conceded the match.

Next off Susi Harris and Wendy Jones who also had a shaky start losing the first hole then a buggy dying on the 2nd halted proceedings for a while however they kept calm and managed to bring the game back all square on the turn. It was nip and tuck and Glynhir remained level by the 15th and with 3 holes to go Glynhir ladies focussed on winning the match, finding the greens with two shots on the par 4's. The match was to be decided on the 18th, when Susi got on the green for 3, Machynys had to concede the hole and the match to Glynhir 2/1.

Next off was Marilyn Rees and new blood Ffion-haf Jones who was playing her first league match for Glynhir. Machynys started their match in dominant style and were 4 up by the 7th but Ffion-haf parred the 9th which was the start of a comeback and both ladies played better golf on the back nine and were able to pull back the match. Machynys needed to win the 18th but a 6 by Ffion-haf was enough to half the hole and indeed half the match.

The final pairing of Mandy Shuttleworth and Manda George quickly realised they were in for a tough afternoon when on the 2nd despite Glynhir being in a good position on the green for 3, Machynys put their approach shot within 3 inches of the flag, securing a half and was definitely a sign of things to come. A good half earned by Glynhir on the 3rd was followed by 2 great pars for Machynys on the long 4th and 5th. A brief respite on the 6th as Manda's par secured their first win.

Machynys continued with some outstanding golf producing a stunning par on the difficult 7th and a chip-in par 3 on the 9th. 5 down on the turn proved too much and the unrelenting pressure from Machynys on the back 9 soon brought the match to an unfortunate early close with a win for Machynys.

The final result was a half.
