League Two West

Amman United 39 Tregaron 0

Club stalwart Dean Williams entered the history books as he clocked up his 200th try for Amman United in the comprehensive victory over basement side Tregaron at a soggy Cwmaman Park.

Williams reached 199 scores with the fifth try of the game before rounding off an excellent team performance by notching up the outstanding personal and club landmark.

Amman, themselves second bottom in Two West, completely dominated proceedings against the winless Ceredigion side to record rare back to back victories.

The hosts went ahead early on through a penalty from the boot of outside half Adrian Thomas and soon settled into their rhythm with their growing confidence evident as full back Ceri Jones’ neat pass put in winger Liam Danter to race around the posts and touch down for the second successive game. Thomas converted.

The rampant Reds were soon away again as skipper Sean Mangan put his head down and batted off numerous defenders before being hauled down just short. From the recycled ball, centre Gavin Lewis was on hand to power over.

With the backrow unit of Mangan, Alun Lewis and Daniel Jones again impressing, and Dai Matthews terrier-like around the park, the home pack went through the phases to suck in the visiting defence and allow flanker Jones to slide in under the posts.

Almost from the restart, Amman caught their opponents cold as Danter scampered over for his second try of the day and secure the crucial bonus point before half-time. Thomas converted touchdowns to ensure the hosts took a commanding 29-0 lead into their interval.

The home side lost a man early in the second half when lock Craig Ratcliffe was yellow-carded for foul play, but they continued to dominate.

With the visitors beginning to tire, returning wing Williams came to the fore, taking Gavin Lewis’ long pass before moving within a score of a place in the history books.

The hosts rung the changes, including marking the return to the field of club legend Karl Worsfold.

Tregaron battled manfully but with gaps appearing as fatigue set in, Williams raced home amid some broken play to round off an excellent victory with his landmark score.

Amman’s next scheduled league fixture is away at Mumbles on February 20.
