Welsh League Division Two

Tata Steel 1 Ammanford 2

Ammanford AFC mounted a late second half comeback to secure all three points away against Tata Steel on Saturday, writes Nick Davies.

On a soft pitch, Ammanford started the brighter of the two and will have been disappointed to have not found themselves ahead early on when Craig Frater’s effort was held.

The striker found himself well placed a minute later, but he flicked his effort over.

However, against the run of play on 15 minutes from a free kick, the hosts fired themselves ahead.

Straight from kick off, Ammanford went on the attack and Frater, when well placed, could only fire his effort at the keeper.

The visitors piled forward and Dayle Selvage came close when he fired his back post header goalbound, but the keeper tipped it over.

The away side had claims for a penalty turned down on 24 minutes, when a player was seemingly hacked down in the area. The players began pushing and shoving, as Tata maintained their slender advantage.

Ammanford had to sub off goalkeeper Daf Jones midway through the half due to an injury, and they almost found themselves 2-0 down before the break, but the home side fired wide; as a good chance went begging.

After the interval, the visitors dominated proceedings. Early in the second period, Euros Griffiths fired over when he found himself on the edge of the box, after the corner landed at his feet.

It looked as if Ammanford would leave empty handed. However, on 75 minutes, Frater whipped in a free kick from the right and it was nodded home by Ben Soal.

With seven minutes remaining, the tricky forward sealed the three points as he found himself in the area before turning and nestling the ball in the corner.

The away side held on for a valuable three points, as they climbed to third.
