League Three West C

Llandybie 23 Bynea 18

Llandybie entertained table-topping Bynea in a ding-dong battle.

Both sides tested each other early on with much of the play around the half-way line during the opening quarter, and both earned and missed penalties.

Play went to and fro with a lot of dropped ball and only Llandybie full back Josh Williams and number eight Lyndon Davies looked capable of breaking the line.

After 35 minutes Ben Featherstone put the home side ahead with a penalty but missed another just minutes later.

Bynea saw their scrum half binned for dissent just before half-time with Llandybie leading by the solitary score.

Some weak home tackling saw the visitors shock the hosts with a Jonathan Cronan try just after the restart. Cronan also added the extras.

Featherstone missed another Llandybie but the hosts finally got their back line running.

From a good scrum Tom Griffith got his backs away, and left wing Dafydd Nicholas joined the line with a terrific take behind his back to put full back Josh Williams into space to canter home. Aled Tomasson converted to put Llandybie 10-7 ahead.

Llandybie’s forwards were working well against a strong Bynea pack, and one to eight put in the hard graft, urged on by fly half Richard Davies.

Dai Lloyd, Merlyn McClelland and Keenan Jones did their share of carrying to enhance the hard working Lyndon Davies.

Cronan levelled with a penalty but Tomasson edged Llandybie back in front.

Jack Morgan snatched a soft try for the visitors, somehow worming his way through three weak tackles to score wide out.

However, Llandybie’s pack were creating problems for the visitors and a further drive earned a penalty, which Tomasson slotted over to put the hosts 16-15 up.

Llandybie then missed another kick at goal, but a good cross field move forced a line-out on the Bynea 22-metre line.

A good take by James Tomasson to Griffith put the back line away and centre Connor Thomas forced his way over. Tomasson again converted.

Cronan converted a penalty in the final minute to earn the visitors a point, but it was a good win for Llandybie against strong opposition.
