Welsh League Division Two

Ammanford 7 Penrhiwceiber 2

Ammanford made it three wins on the bounce as they defeated Penrhiwceiber 7-2 at the Rec on Saturday, writes Nick Davies.

The hosts maintained their winning streak thanks to a brace a piece from Ashley Richards and Euros Griffiths and further efforts from Mikey Morris, Matthew Jones and a first Welsh League goal for Liam Edwards.

On 11 minutes, the home side opened the scoring when Matthew Fisher’s free kick from the left was brought down and poked home by Griffiths. Edwards nearly got his first goal minutes later, but fired wide.

The visitors got their first shot on goal on 19 minutes, but Daf Jones was on hand to brilliantly tip the effort over.

Ammanford should have doubled their advantage on 23 minutes, but Matthew Harding sent his free header wide.

But it was 2-0 on 28 minutes when Richards turned a defender after Fisher’s pass and fired home into the corner. Two minutes later, he sent Morris through to lob the goalkeeper from 30 yards.

Richards bagged his second before the interval when Fisher was sent in by the striker, before the forward dodged the keeper and laid off for Richards to tap home.

After the break, Morris nearly got his second but his shot was stopped by the Penrhiwceiber keeper.

The away side hit back with a goal when Jones failed to pounce on a loose ball, but the deficit was restored when Fisher played through Edwards to smash home Ammanford’s fifth.

With 10 minutes to go, Penrhiwceiber pounced on a loose back pass to round the goalkeeper and score, but straight from kick off Owen James won a corner, from which Griffiths half-volleyed home after Kurt Morgan brought the ball down for the defender.

Jones made a brilliant double save on 85 minutes, before Morris set up Matthew Jones late on to seal an emphatic victory for Ammanford.
