League Two West Central

Nantymoel 34 Cwmgors 6

Cwmgors came up short against another big pack in the shape of Nantymoel, and found themselves on the back foot for much of the afternoon as the home side dominated.

Still looking for their first victory of the campaign, the Cherries defended heroically for large periods, but by the interval the hosts had established a deserved 15-3 lead with Steff Rees’ penalty the visitors’ only points.

Nant’s opening try had actually come rather against the run of play after a bright Cwmgors start, but from then on the hosts control much of the proceedings.

Cwm continued to tackle for their lives in the second half, with man of the match Ethan Price again outstanding at flanker.

The visitors did have periods of attacking play, but after a series of line-out catch and drives, where Liam Jones did well, it all came to nought as the home backline was found to be a bridge too far to breach.

The fixture proved a step on a steep learning curve for Cwmgors in this tough and unforgiving division with the Cherries sinking to bottom of the table.

They will be hoping for better fortune when they entertain Aberavon Green Stars in two weeks’ time.
