Tycroes 15 Fishguard and Goodwick 14
AFTER winning at Carmarthen Athletic the previous weekend, Tycroes narrowly defeated Fishguard and Goodwick at Cae Gelli.
Wearing their new jerseys, sponsored by Poppies Florist, Tycroes took the lead in the fourth minute when a superbly timed line by centre Steffan Jones saw him cut through the visitors to score between the sticks. Carwyn Richards added the extras.
A swift passing move along the Tycroes back line saw wing Jonathan Tancock cross in the corner only for the referee to blow up for a foot in touch. The decision bemused the crowd as the Fishguard touch judge didn’t raise her flag.
The visitors levelled just before the break when full-back Mike Jenkins crossed the whitewash with James Griffiths converting.
Within a minute, though, Dean Bromham slotted a drop goal to give the home team a 10-7 half-time lead.
Aled James powered over for a try late in the second half after a quickly taken tap penalty saw the youngster get his first touchdown for Tycroes. The conversion was missed. In the referee's added time three home players were yellow-carded.
Tycroes were given a scrum on their own line with no front row players left on the field. It was the last play of the game and the ball was fed back to Bromham who accepted the ball and stepped back over the dead ball line to end the game... or so he thought.
The referee deemed it an illegal play and awarded the visitors a scrum five from which they scored in the 92nd minute. Griffiths converted.
Tycroes travel to Llanybydder on Saturday (1.30pm).
