Swalec Bowl Round One

Llandybie 39 Neyland 7

Llandybie entertained Neyland in the first round of the Swalec Bowl and went ahead after just three minutes when, after good forward work, Neyland infringed at the ruck and Aled Tomasson kicked the points.

Minutes later Tomasson struck his second when the visitors were offside.

Llandybie’s pack caused problems for Neyland, starving them of possession.

Good ruck ball put Llandybie’s back line away and forwards and backs kept the ball alive in a cross field charge before winger Connor Thomas sprinted in. Tomasson converted.

After 20 minutes a brilliant driving maul saw prop Matthew Meredith diving over. Tomasson added the extras.

A good clearance kick by flanker Rhydian Jones was chased by Dafydd Evans to collect and run clear only to be hauled down by the Pembrokeshire side’s right wing.

The second half was more even with Neyland grafting hard, however they were stopped in their tracks by Lyndon Davies and Merlyn McClelland before the hosts lost Meredith to a foot injury.

Twenty minutes in more good forward driving saw Tom Griffith put his back line away and Tomasson scored the try which he again converted.

Good play by the home team created an opening for scrum half Griffith which he took for a 32-0 lead.

The hosts then took their foot off the gas and Neyland got on the scoreboard with a soft try by Craig Grice after two missed tackles. Pat Bellaby converted.

Llandybie lost substitute Keenan Jones to a hamstring problem and Rhydian Jones with a head injury.

Neyland attacked down the left but replacement prop Rhys Cann covered the danger and fed full back Dafydd Nicholas who cleared to touch.

The final word was with Llandybie as more good forward rucking by Dai Lloyd won the ball and fly half Richard Davies put his back line away.

Full back Nicholas came into the line and his pace took him clear from thirty yards to touch down. Tomasson added the points with a brilliant kick from near the touchline.

Neyland worked hard to the death but Llandybie were clinical with their finishing to run out winners 39-7.
