Ammanford 41 Pencoed 22

Ammanford continued their unbeaten start to the season with a curate’s egg of a win, good in patches.

The game started with an excellent Michael Evans break in midfield, which saw the centre run clear and score the first try of the game.

Rhydian Morris added a penalty soon after for an 8–0 lead.

Pencoed came back positively, scoring and converting before adding a seconr score to earn a 15-8 advantage.

Towards the end of the half a breakaway try from Gareth Rees reduced the lead to 15-13 at half-time.

The home team’s creaking scrum was solidified by the introduction of tight head Rhodri Jones, and from a big forward drive Rees sniped over for his second try to put the home team back in front.

Pressure on the visiting defence saw a poor kick sliced to wing Gary Stephens who still had a lot to do - beating four defenders before crossing. Morris added the two

With Ammanford well on top some quality passing between forwards and backs led to a try for No8 Emyr Price. Again Morris converted.

Evans, not to be left out of the party, scored a second try with a piece of fine individual skill. Morris converted to make it 41–15.

With the last move of the game Pencoed squeezed over and converted to end the game 41–22 down.

Home supporters left the Rec happy, but the coaching staff were frustrated with lack of consistent effort throughout the 80 minutes and will look for an improvement when they travel to Bonymaen on Saturday.
