Welsh League Division 2

Cwmamman United 2

AFC Porth 0

Cwmamman gained another three points in their debut season in the second division of the Welsh League with a very good display and a clean sheet.

From the off Cwmamman dominated possession and remained camped in Porth's half for the majority of the game.

Chances came and went for the hosts in a goalless first half which saw Liam Soroka fire three shots over the bar while last week’s hat-trick heroes David Brown and Cory Saunders both saw efforts saved by the Porth keeper.

The best chance of the half however came when a through ball by Brown found Steven Hughes with a clear run at goal, but his effort went narrowly over the cross bar.

The second period saw much of the same from the hosts in terms of possession, but after the break they got their rewards.

They took the lead after 50 minutes when a Brown freekick was well saved by Porth's keeper and went for a corner.

From the resulting set-piece, the visiting Number One failed to keep hold of the ball allowing Hughes to fire home from close range.

The hosts Cwmamman continued to boss possession and Porth's only moment of the half came when a mix up in defence nearly allowed the visitors in only for the frontman to head wide.

The hosts killed off the game when after another set play, captain Nathan McNeil headed the ball back across the area for Hughes to grab his second with a simple close-range header which sealed the win.

The win sees United in fifth place, three points behind leaders Cwmbran Celtic with two games in hand,

Next week Cwmamman are home in the JD FAW Welsh Cup against Division One outfit Taffs Well.
