League Two West Central

Cwmgors 6 Aberavon Quins 6

The unbeaten Quins were given a searching test by a committed Cwmgors who earned their first two points of the season with a battling but very entertaining draw.

The visitors kicked off, playing towards Tairgwaith, and shaded the territory in the first half before their endeavour was rewarded with a penalty just before half-time.

Although the half produced just three points, chances were created by both sides, only to see disciplined defences outstanding.

Centre Jordan Davies typified the host’s tackling resilience with a real captain’s performance while offensively, Lloyd Watson and Chris Jones made some good ground with a few neat breaks.

Outside half Darren Howells also kept his backs moving well with some excellent service.

Scrum half Caron Jones, still on the kicking duties with Steff Rees starting on the bench, levelled the scores with a penalty early in the second half.

The tackling was superb still as Cwmgors’ back row of Darren Williams, Ioan Davies and Dylan Hills excelled as an unit.

Chris Jones, Watson and full back Dan Morgan tried hard to penetrate a stubborn Quins backline, but without reward, before the visitors regained the lead with a penalty.

However, Jones’ second penalty success two minutes later brought the Cherries level again.

He missed another, but Quins went even closer rapping a post late on and a draw was a fair result.

Cwmgors will be looking for their first victory when they host winless Neath Athletic at Parc y Werin on Saturday.
