Welsh League Division Two

Dinas Powys 3 Cwmamman United 8

After two cup wins during the last fortnight, Cwmamman returned to league action with an emphatic win at Dinas Powys.

The first half proved a crazy affair with eight goals scored.

Dinas took the lead as early as the fifth minute when a corner found the home centre forward unmarked at the far post to head past Mark Snell in the Cwmamman goal.

The visitors’ response was positive and after 12 minutes they levelled when Cory Saunders beat the offside trap to power an effort beyond the home keeper.

Within three minutes, Cwmamman were in front when a great cross by Liam Soroka found Steven Hughes, who was able to round the keeper for a tap-in.

On 25 minutes, the hosts drew level when a freekick was met at the far post and the header looped over Snell.

Cwmamman reclaimed the lead on 35 minutes when Soroka found David Brown to side-foot the ball past the Dinas keeper.

Cwmamman extended their lead on 38 minutes when Brown fired home his second from the penalty spot after Saunders was upended in the box.

The hosts reduced the arrears on 40 minutes when a 35-yard free-kick which flew in off the inside of the post to nestle in the far corner.

On the stroke of half-time however, Dinas Powys were down to 10 men when a reckless challenge on Gareth Morrell resulted in a second yellow, but may well have been worthy of a straight red.

From the resultant freekick, Brown’s shot hit the post but Saunders was quickest to react and fire home Cwmamman's fifth.

It was one way traffic during the second half with Cwmamman keeping possession and tiring out the Dinas players, who became increasingly frustrated and picked up a handful of yellow cards.

Cwmamman finally put the game to bed on 65 minutes when Saunders completed his hat-trick with a well worked team goal.

The visitors introduced substitute Brieg Matthews late on before another excellent team goal saw Morrell on the scoresheet on 80 minutes.

Brown delicately fired the ball over the wall and past the rooted keeper from a 25-yard freekick on 85 minutes to claim his hat-trick - and 8th goal of the season.
