Welsh League Division Two

West End 2

Cwmamman United 3

(Wednesday night)

Cwmamman made up for the defeat against the same opposition the previous week with a deserved victory against West End on a poor surface.

The visitors started brightly and created several half-chances early onbut were unable to convert.

On 15 minutes, after a flurry of corners, the hosts took the lead when a poorly defended set-piece saw the West End striker left unmarked at the far post to head home easily.

Cwmamman’s response was positive and the hosts’ keeper was forced to produce sharp saves from debutant Sion Dafydd Williams and Cory Saunders.

Cwmamman drew level on 30 minutes when a David Brown free-kick found the top-left corner.

As the half drew to its conclusion there appeared only one team likely to take the lead, but Cwmamman were again thwarted by the home stopper.

The visitors had the perfect start to the second half however when, on 48 minutes, Williams marked his debut in style by firing home from an acute angle to earn Cwmamman a deserved lead.

The advantage was short lived after however and a 25-yard free-kick on 50 minutes by former Cwmamman favourite Robert Shannon crept underneath the wall and bounced off keeper Mark Snell into the corner of the net.

Cwmamman’s eventual winner came after 65 minutes – and it was worth the wait.

Left wing Liam Soroka cut in from the flank and unleashed a bullet shot from 30 yards into the top right corner to the delight of the away support.

With West End pushing for an equaliser, gaps appeared in their defence and Cwmamman should have put the game to bed but wasted several golden opportunities through Williams and substitute Oliver Bowen.

With time running out, the hosts pushed everyone forward including their keeper but were unable to find the leveller.

A solid performance by Cwmamman with midfielder Craig Spring and defenders Josh Medwin, Nathan McNeil, Jack Medwin and Ashley Johns all contributing superbly while a brilliant save by Snell at the death capped off a splendid win and secured three points.

Cwmamman’s next fixture sees them travel to Croesyceiliog in the League Cup on September 5.
