Ammanford lost to St Fagans by eight wickets

Ammanford tumbled to their fifth consecutive league defeat on Saturday, losing by eight wickets at the Park to bottom placed St Fagans.

Alun Evans won the toss and tried to infuse some confidence into his ailing batsmen by electing to take first knock.

The plan failed badly.

At 51 for five, Ammanford were in serious trouble before Matthew Fisher, coming in at seven due to a stomach upset, joined his skipper at the crease and the pair put on 40 for the sixth wicket.

It was the only positive point in Ammanford's performance.

When Fisher departed for 19 and Evans for 26, Matthew Roberts (17) offered some resistance, but it took only 32 overs for Ammanford to be all out for 104.

Jamie Sylvester took four for 14 for the visitors.

The St Fagans openers provided a more than adequate platform with a stand of 38.

Sean Coaker and Matthew Roberts picked up a wicket each, but Jeremy Lawlor (57no) and Mike O'Shea (20no) ensured that St Fagans cantered to an easy victory within 22 overs.

Ammanford have now dropped to an alarming eighth place, just 15 points clear of Mumbles.

From being credible championship contenders at the halfway stage, relegation has become a very real serious possibility for Ammanford unless league performances, particularly batting, stage a remarkable improvement.

Next Saturday they visit Newport for this season's penultimate league match.
