Welsh Cup Quarter-Final

Ammanford (195-9) beat Mumbles (106)

Ammanford put aside their league struggles and cruised into the semi-final of the Welsh Cup with a hammering of Mumbles at the Park on Sunday.

Winning the toss, Ammanford captain Alun Evans gave his team first knock, but they got off to another poor start as Rhys Davies was back in the pavilion with the score on one.

Matthew Fisher joined Hedd Jones to steady the situation and they took the score to 62 before Fisher was out for 27.

Jones (47) was fourth man out with the score on 93, and Matthew Roberts (31), in fine form with the bat, carried on the good work to take Ammanford to 139 for seven with nine of the 40 overs to go.

A closing flourish saw Rhodri Davies (18) and Kael Ace (27) put on a valuable 41 before Sam Jones hit a six off the last ball to help Ammanford reach 195 for nine.

Ammanford's young opening attack performed well beyond their years.

Sam Jones and Sean Coaker shared wickets in each of the four opening overs to leave Mumbles reeling on 11 for four.

Matthew Fisher then got rid of Mumbles danger man Alex Griffiths (30) to put the match beyond the visitors' reach.

They were all out for 106 in 28 overs.

Sean Coaker, Sam Jones, Matthew Fisher and Rhys Davies each bagged a couple of wickets.

Ammanford will travel to play Ynysygerwn in the semi-final.
