Ammanford (204-9) lost to Port Talbot Town

Ammanford's poor run of defeats continued when Port Talbot Town handed them a nine-wicket thumping at the Park on Saturday.

The Davies brothers opened the batting for Ammanford, and while Rhodri was quickly dismissed with the score on one, brother Rhys (41) went on to play the main role in a second wicket stand of 45 with skipper Alun Evans.

A middle order debacle took the score to 64 for four before Matthew Roberts joined his captain and they put on 122 for the fifth wicket.

At 186 for five, the remaining batsmen failed to capitalise and Ammanford ended their 50 overs on 204 for nine.

Sean Griffiths and Josh Tobin took three wickets each for the visitors.

In contrast, Port Talbot got their innings off to a great start, Mark Cox and Dan Cherry putting on 79 before Cherry was run out by Rhys Davies for 39.

And that was the last piece of good news for Ammanford.

Cox was joined by former Glamorgan player Ian Thomas and the pair took their time to pick off the runs in leisurely fashion without any further fall of wickets.

Cox was unbeaten on 91, and Thomas not out on 57 when Ammanford's total was passed with three overs to spare.

Ammanford remain in fifth position, but the gap between them and fourth placed Port Talbot has opened up considerably.

They are now looking at the teams below rather than those above.

Next Saturday sees Ammanford travel to bottom of the league Mumbles in the hope of a return to winning ways.
