Bridgend 183 for eight

Ammanford 215 for eight

Ammanford turned in a fine all-round performance to get the better of a draw at table-topping Bridgend Town on Saturday.

Despite losing both their openers for 21, Ammanford consolidated their innings through skipper Alun Evans and in-form Matthew Fisher.

The pair put on 86 much needed runs for the third wicket before Fisher was dismissed for 55.

There followed two further solid stands between the captain and first Gareth Slade (24) and then Matthew Roberts (20).

Evans responsibly held on to his wicket for an unbeaten 88 to take Ammanford’s total to 215 for eight after their 50 overs.

Ammanford’s opening attack of Tom Maynard and Sean Coaker took the game to the Bridgend batsmen and had them on the rack at 36 for five in 19 overs.

Maynard in particular had one of his finest bowling spells for Ammanford and took four for 18 in his 10 overs.

Bridgend were saved by former Glamorgan pair Darren Thomas and Alex Jones who put on 80 for the sixth wicket.

Fisher (3-56) dismissed Jones for 32, but Thomas (97) managed to hold out until the last ball when he was caught out going for his ton.

Bridgend finished with 183 for eight. They remain in pole position while Ammanford move up to 4th.

Next week they welcome Neath to the Park.

Meanwhile, Ammanford moved into the last eight of the Welsh Cup with the annihilation of Llangennech last Sunday.

Ammanford took just 21 overs to dismiss the Llangennech innings for 52. Sam Jones took four wickets for just three runs, supported by Kael Ace with three for 22.

Ammanford openers Hedd Jones (16no) and Rhodri Davies (26no) needed just half a dozen overs to overtake the Llangennech score. The game was over inside a couple of hours.
