Neath and District Bowls

Cwmllynfell 68 Gwaun cae Gurwen 90

Gwaun cae Gurwen travelled to near neighbours Cwmllynfell for a Neath and District league match.

On a green much slower than their own, the Waun started quite well and were level after five ends at 15–15 due to their Number Three rink leading 8–1.

After ten ends, the Waun edged to a 37–34 advantage and with the sun and wind drying out the green, the pace soon picked up.

The Waun continued to lead after 15, extending their advantage to 58–50 and on the run- in outscored Cwmllynfell by 32 shots to 18 to finish the game comfortably at 90–68, which enabled them to pick up all 14 points.

The comeback of the day belonged to the Waun’s Number Five rink who, despite trailing by 15–5 at one stage fought back to win 27–21 .

Likewise on Rink Four, where the Waun outscored their hosts by 15–0 over the last five ends.

The most pleasing aspect of the game however was the sight of young Steffan Shannon, aged just 12, playing second on the home Number Four rink and who appeared to be thoroughly enjoying himself, doing himself justice during the game.

Next week the Waun play away at Prince of Wales Court, Porthcawl, who started off the day being at the top of the league.
