The future of one of the Amman Valley’s most well-respected sporting clubs in hanging in the balance as it struggles against a drop in player numbers.

Cwmamman Bowls Club’s has faced a constant battle over recent years to muster the numbers necessary to put out a team – and the situation now appears to have reached breaking point.

The club has now issued an urgent appeal for new players to join its ranks and is hoping desperately that the plea will bear fruit.

The club was established 25 years ago, but has repeatedly has struggled to field a full side for some time.

Cwmamman’s opening two Llanelli and District League fixtures this season had to be postponed due to lack of numbers.

On Saturday, the club was even unable to muster the 12 players required for four depleted rinks of three players each on their trip to Gowerton.

The hosts were able to boast a full team of 16 bowlers.

Club spokesman and Rink skip John Sam Jones said he feared that unless there was a rise in membership the club faced going under, drawing a line on a quarter of a century of play.

“We have struggled for a while to find a full team,” said John.

“Hopefully, we can keep going and find some new players.

“If we can’t then, sadly, it could be the end after over 25 years.

“It would be a real shame”.

Cwmamman are scheduled to take on Tybie at home on Saturday – the day of Cwmamman Carnival – but the fixture depends on the hosts being able to field a side.

Cwmamman Veterans’ side are also scheduled to play Tumble at home Thursday (tomorrow).

Anyone wishing to come along and try their hand at bowls, including absolute beginners, can come along to Cwmamman Park green at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursday or contact John Sam Jones on 01269 824181.

Tuition will be given and woods can be provided if needed.
