Division Three West A

Penybanc 38 Cefneithin 26

Penybanc brought the curtain down on an up and down season with a home win over Cefneithen.

The Tigers hand begun the campaign with a top four finish their target and the final day victory was enough to secure third, eight points clear of nearest rivals Tumble.

Cefn raced into a 10-0 lead with an interception try and penalty before Banc hit back with a try from full-back Steff Andrews. Fly-half Mathew Lloyd added the extras.

With the set-piece running as efficiently as ever, the Banc backs were given a good platform and Andrews' perfectly timed pass found centre Mathew Brayley at a superb angle to go in under the posts and pull Banc further away. Lloyd once again on target with the conversion.

The front row of Zac Rees, Adrian Pugh and Rhodri Jones put the Cefn scrum under huge pressure and after another powerful drive, the referee lost patience and awarded the Tigers a penalty try to make it 21-10 at the break.

Cefn again started strongly, putting concerted pressure on the Banc defence, but some huge hits from flankers Aled Danter and James Turrell kept the visitors at bay.

From a turnover on the home 22, the ball was spread wide and that man Andrews outstripped the covering defence for a cracking try. Lloyd’s conversion attempt hit the post.

Cefn grabbed a try and a couple of penalties before powerful centre Tom Gale muscled his way over and Lloyd again extended the advantage.

Penybanc would like to thank everyone who has been involved with the club and all who have pulled the jersey this season.

The club’s presentation night is May 30.
