Welsh League Division Three

Cwmamman United 2

Treowen Stars 0

Cwmamman United rounded off an incredible week for Amman Valley football by clinching promotion to Welsh League Division Two with a comfortable victory against a Treowen side who offered little threat throughout the 90 minutes.

The landmark came just days after near neighbours Ammanford achieved the same feat.

Cwmamman’s went into the game knowing a win would secure their place in the higher league next season and they started the game well, creating several opportunities in the first half thanks to numerous corners and half-chances as they looked to put pressure on the Treowen defence.

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes when Nathan McNeil’s eight-yard effort left the visitor’s keeper with no chance as the United captain netted his 201st senior goal for the club.

Cwmamman knew they would need the security of a second goal to kill the game off but were unable to extend their advantage before the interval.

The second half continued with the home side pressing, but United were wasteful in front of goal with Liam Soroka spurning several occasions.

Liam Hughes was introduced from the bench and the young attacker -along with Jordan Langley - caused the visitors problems with their mazy runs.

There was always a threat of an equaliser as long as the game went on but Treowen hardly troubled the home keeper Mark Snell.

United finally cemented the win – and promotion - with 10 minutes on the clock when a Langley cross was drilled home by Soroka.

There were scenes of delight at the final whistle as United secured a place in the second division of the Welsh League for the first time in club history.

With still three games remaining Cwmamman need two more point to gain runners up spot ahead of Ammanford in what has been a fantastic season for the Valley and West Wales Football.

A United spokesman said the club wished to place on record their thanks to their sponsors for the season.

Cwmamman are home on Tuesday against Rhoose (6.30pm) before travelling to Cardiff Corinthians on May 14. Their final game of the season is at home against Newport Civil Service on May 16 (2.30pm).
