Welsh League Division Three

Cwmamman United 8 Newport YMCA 0

After a tough midweek battle at Newport, Cwmamman expected an equally difficult scenario when the two sides met at Grenig Park on Saturday.

Cwmamman won the away encounter 2-1 thanks to goals from Liam Soroka and Ashley Johns, but romped to an emphatic8-0 victory as the men from the YMCA had no answer to the hosts.

Cwmamman went ahead after 10 minutes when David Brown’s sweetly-struck freekick left the Newport no chance after the visitors were penalised five yards outside the box.

The hosts doubled their advantage on 20 minutes when Jordan Langley’s cut inside after a pacey run to fire a low shot into the corner of the net.

Five minutes later Langley got his second when he slotted the ball past the YMCA keeper from 10 yards.

Cwmamman should have put the game to bed before the break, but the hosts were guilty of wasting chances which came their way.

However, there was only one team in it after the interval and Cwmamman scored their fourth 15 minutes into the second period when Soroka fired home from just inside the area.

They made it five when Langley claimed a well-deserved hat-trick.

With the game won, Cwmamman introduced all three substitutes and Aled Bowen bagged a brace within ten minutes of his introduction.

The goal of the season came when Steven Hughes fired a 30-yard half volley into the top corner to round off a perfect day for Cwmamman who now find themselves three points behind second-placed Ammanford with three games in hand.

Cwmamman’s next game is Tuesday, May 5, at home to Panteg (KO 6.30pm) before they host Treowen Stars on Saturday.
