Welsh League Division Three

Rhoose 1 Cwmamman United 4

After the disappointment of last week’s semi-final defeat at the hands of Division One leaders Caerau, Cwmamman were once again on their travels and returned with all three points after an impressive display against the in-form Rhoose, who had only conceded one goal in their previous six outings.

With a strong wind at Jenner Park, Rhoose started brightly and as early as the first second minute had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down.

After ten minutes however, the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Drew Fahiya was show a straight red card for a stamp on Craig Spring.

Cwmamman took the lead on 15 minutes when impressive work from Steven Hughes saw crossing for Andrew Bonomi to head home from six yards.

With Cwmamman pressing, they doubled their advantage when Hughes’s struck from just inside the 18-yard box.

On the stroke of half-time, Rhoose were given a lifeline when the visitors conceded a needless free-kick on the edge of the area and Mark Webb found the bottom corner.

The second half began well for the hosts and they nearly drew matters level from a corner but centre half Mark Dodds’ header was easily held by Cwmamman keeper Mark Snell.

The visitors looked dangerous from set pieces and captain Nathan McNeil should have done better from a corner when his header went narrowly over.

On 60 minutes Cwmamman were awarded a free-kick outside the area and Luke Dalling stepped up to curl the ball into the top right hand corner.

Ten minutes later Cwmamman killed off the game when midfielder David Brown drove into the penalty area and drilled a low shot past keeper Barry Niblett.

Cwmamman should have added to the scoreline but were wasteful in front of goal.

Cwmamman take on Ammanford on Tuesday evening before visiting Treowen on Saturday.

Cwmamman’s third team ended their season on a high with a 2-1 derby win against Bryn Rovers. Cameron Jones netted twice for the hosts. Meanwhile, the reserves play their last game of the season on Saturday against Division One champions Cambrian.
