Division Three West C

Pantyffynnon 18 Betws 31

If there was ever a game of two halves then this was it.

Betws stormed into a 24-6 interval lead without having to do very much as Pantyffynnon appeared to freeze on the big occasion.

The hosts coughed up too much easy ball and gifted the visitors three early tries to put the game all but out of reach before the break.

After a stern talking to at half-time, Panty pulled their foot off the breaks and began to play, keeping the ball for long periods and forcing Betws back for much of the half.

Panty's scrum got stronger as the game progressed, causing all sorts of problems for the visitors who conceded numerous penalties as Panty grew in confidence.

Good Betws defence prevented the hosts getting back into the game early enough to set up a grand stand finish.

Pantyffynnon did however score two late tries from veteran Julian Davies and wing Nathan Jones which was sandwiched between a Betws breakaway from ex-Panty flier Ashley Evans.

The game proved a cracking advert for local rugby as both sides put on a good spectacle for the large crowd and bring the curtain down on the season in style.
