Division Three West A

Penybanc 54 Llandybie 0

In warm, sunny conditions, Penybanc hosted their nearest geographical rivals Llandybie with both sides keen to put on a decent showing after suffering sizeable defeats the previous week.

It was Banc that started the stronger with centre Mathew Brayley spraying a long pass to full back Wayne Williams who linked with Wayne Price before Williams was taken into touch just short of the line with a superb tackle.

The home team were not to be denied though and it was Brayley that barged his way over to open the scoring.

Minutes later, the big centre again blasted through some weak tackling to register his second score.

The Penybanc set piece was dominant in the first half, allowing the backs a steady stream of ball and from one powerful drive at the scrum, scrum-half Owen Williams was able to pinch the ball to score before Brayley claimed his hat trick after showing a neat turn of pace to claim the bonus point and to register his 49th try for the club.

Llandybie used their big forwards to hammer the home line but were met with aggressive defence while Banc continued to spread the ball at every opportunity and some impressive interplay saw wing Price scorch over from 30 yards for a half-time lead of 28-0.

The Banc coaches rang the changes shortly after interval but continued to play positive rugby.

Fly-half Mathew Lloyd, who was impressive all day, scored a great solo try before providing a try scoring pass for Price to score his second.

The visitors came into the game again for a period keeping the ball tight and were unlucky not to get a score.

Banc however, were not finished and when the ball came out to former Llandybie full back Williams, a trademark side step and an injection of pace sent him over for another score.

With the heat and intensity taking its toll, Banc crossed for one more try - a powerful run and offload from Brayley to industrious flanker Mark Tench saw the veteran rewarded for another solid shift.

Banc spurned several chances throughout the game but the away side never gave up and defended heroically at times.

However, the Banc forwards, with the bit between their teeth, and the backs, marshalled by the classy Brayley, proved too much for the visitors.

Penybanc head to Burry Port on Saturday for their last away game of the season while Llandybie host Trimsaran.
