Ynysmeudwy entertained Sunnybank and took the lead through Paul Sypliwtchak before Richard Medwin doubled the home advantage before half-time.
Sypliwtchak doubled his tally shortly after the break before the visitors pulled a goal back.
It was merely a consolation for Sunnybank however as Ryan Rouse and then Mark Adams further extended the Athletic lead to secure all three points.
Ynysmeudwy travel to Onllwyn on Tuesday (KO 6pm) before entertaining Glynneath Town in the Premier Division Cup semi-final on Saturday (KO 2pm).
Ynysmeudwy Athletic Reserves went down 2-0 to Ynysygwern in Reserve Division One Cup semi-final on Thursday.
However, there was better news on Saturday when they ran out 5-2 winners over Ystradgynlais in the Open Cup semi-final thanks to goals from Matthew Jones (two), James West (two) and Daniel Picton.
Athletic Reserves are home to Ynysygwern on Monday and on Thursday host Bryn Rovers. Both matches kick off at 6pm.
