Bettws 1 Ammanford 2

Craig Frater struck deep into injury time to snatch all three points for Ammanford as they edged closer to securing promotion with a 2-1 victory at Bettws on Saturday, writes Nick Davies.

After the midweek win over Cwmamman United, Gruff Harrison’s men started on the front foot and, with seven minutes gone, Mikey Morris brought down a Dayle Selvage pass inside the area before twisting and firing into the bottom corner with a dipping effort.

The visitors maintained their impetus going forward and Frater tested the opposition keeper with an effort from the edge of the area after 12 minutes. The forward let one fly from range 10 minutes later, but he shot just over.

Bettws’ first half performance mustered only one real effort with a strike on 26 minutes flying over the bar.

Frater curled a free-kick just wide of the post just before the break as the away side headed into the interval confident about their chances.

However, the second period proved to be a different story.

Brett Enoch tested the opposition goalkeeper with 60 minutes gone.

The tide turned however and the hosts marched onwards in search of an equaliser. After testing the Ammanford defence, Gareth Darks’ men got their just rewards when from a corner they levelled matters.

But, after some quick substitutions it was Ammanford who looked the best bet to nick the three points. However, when Frater fluffed his lines by missing a golden opportunity at the back post with nine minutes left, the sides seemed set to share the spoils.

But deep into injury time, youngster Liam Edwards passed to Enoch on the left wing, who squared for Frater to fire home a late, late winner.

Bettws were reduced to 10 men in the dying moments of the game, but Ammanford held on to maintain pace with leaders Llanelli.
