Cwmamman United 4 Llantwit Major 1

Nathan McNeil scored his 200th senior goal for Cwmamman as United followed up their 5-0 win over Lliswerry with a comfortable victory over visiting Llantwit Major.

The visitors dominated the first half as the hosts struggled to create chances thanks to Llantwit breaking up the play and slowing the tempo.

The Glamorgan side deservedly took the lead on 18 minutes after Mark Snell could only push a free-kick onto the post and Tom Farmer pounced on to the loose ball to fire into an empty net.

The visitors created a couple more opportunities during the closing stages of the half but some wayward shots meant the chances went begging.

Cwmamman’s best chance of the half saw Marc Lloyd’s tame shot easily saved.

The hosts were in need of a quick response after the restart and levelled inside five minutes when skipper McNeil headed home an accurate Liam Soroka freekick to net his landmark goal.

Despite the home side dominating proceedings, Llantwit remained dangerous and the visitors created several half chances only for the quality of their finishing to let them down.

On 70 minutes, Cwmamman finally got their noses in front when debutant Jordan Langley netted his first goal for the club with a superb half volley into the roof of the net following his transfer from Blaen y Maes.

Cwmamman introduced Liam Hughes off the bench and impact was immediate when, after a goal mouth scramble, he pounced on the loose ball and fired into the net.

Langley’s excellent low drive into the bottom corner marked a debut to remember as he secured the three points and narrow the gap to second for third-placed Cwmamman

On Wednesday, Cwmamman visit second-placed Ammanford (KO 6.30pm) in what is likely to be a huge game for both sides, before hosting Caerau Ely in the League Cup semi-final on Saturday (KO 2pm).
