Ammanford 7 Treharris Athletic Western 1

A Dayle Selvage hat-trick inspired Ammanford to a 7-1 demolition over Treharris Athletic Western on Saturday at the Recreational Ground, writes Nick Davies.

It was a tale of two halves as Ammanford dominated the first period, netting the opener after just four minutes when Craig Frater poked home Rhys Owen’s header.

It was only four minutes later when the lead was doubled as Selvage prodded home Frater’s cross.

Frater then fired wide, but it was 3-0 on 21 minutes as Ashley Richards expertly guided Matthew Jones’ cross to the back post where it ricocheted off the post and into the net.

Five minutes later, Richards doubled his tally when he got on the end of Frater’s squared ball before firing into the opposite corner.

Frater then got his second when he robbed the goalkeeper in his own area before tapping into the empty net to extend the lead to 5-0 on 35 minutes.

Almost immediately, Selvage rounded off a perfect half for the hosts as he brilliantly curled in from the left of the box after Frater bagged another assist in an exquisite first half from Ammanford.

But after being blown out of the water by the Carmarthenshire outfit in the first half, the away side were rejuvenated in the second period after their manager likely gave them the hairdryer treatment during the break.

After Selvage saw his effort smash off the upright early in the second half, Treharris hit back. Numerous attacks counted for little on the scoreboard however and it was almost 7-0, but Selvage had his first hat-trick ruled out by the officials when his flicked effort went in.

Treharris responded by nodding home their own consolation goal when they had the goal at their mercy after James Kirkwood pushed a free kick onto the bar, before falling for their striker.

Frater’s lobbed effort inside the area hit the post with 15 minutes left before the visitors missed two opportunities late on.

But, Selvage rounded off the show by smashing home his first ever hat-trick for the club after Richards’ knock down for the midfielder, in what was an impressive win for the league’s second placed side.
